Friday I jumped in the old truck and headed out west. First stop was Rezner Race Trailer sales in Duncan Ok. Now let me say that Bob and Donna have to be the worlds best trailer people to deal with, and it's great to have them on the Ardmore dragway sponsorship program this year so ,if you need a trailer this is the place to go. We visited for a while and Bob was telling me how is is ready to bring the blown 72 Chevy over and run with us.
You need to see this truck it is a show stopper. After leaving Rezner's we went past the location of the old Duncan Drag strip, Dad raced his Model A way back in the 60's over there and made some really good friends that we still have. We then stopped in and saw Archie Teague at his machine shop right out side of Duncan.
He won the Nationals in OkC way back about 58 driving a Oldsmobile. He is the father of Terry that runs the Pro Street
class. Which reminds me, there will be about 10 Pro Street races ran at Ardmore Dragway this year. I will post you the dates this week.
Now Archie's shop is cool they have been living on the home place since 63 and going inside the shop is like walking in your favorite old country store when you were a kid. There is a list on the wall of all the engines Archie has built. It covers almost a whole 4x8 section.
Next we headed to Mustang, and stopped in David Morris's shop.
Now if you like superchargers you found the right place.
I have to say David has my all time favorite Model A. I can remember them racing at Ardmore and jumping in it and going after lunch in Springer.
You can see this car and several more supercharged AA/GS
rides at this years White Walls and Drags and the Hot Rod Reunion. In which a few of the OKC guys tell me they plan on making the reunion larger the Bowling Green. Time will only tell.
My next stop was the Southwest Street Rod nationals at the OKC fairgrounds, I ran into Sam Woodard of the Central State Gassers and he tells me the gassers will be at both events also.
These guys are the coolest to hang out with and really make our show happen.
I then met up with Jim McCleland he is one of my partners on the Nostalgia seen and, he will be bringing his Stone-Woods-Cook and Bones restored AA/GS car to show at this years reunion.
We hung out at the show and met up with Mike Milsap. He is in charge of the Southwest Jr. fuel guys. Mike said they are planning on bringing the whole association up for the reunion this year..
The last stop was Top Slots of OKC. They run a 1/24 scale slot car dragstrip. Working tree, scoreboards and the whole deal.
This is Ross's other hobby and they run 3 nights a week. I have seen lots of former OKlahoma City racers hanging out there, If you are ever in Del City stop and check it out.
Well I am sure you tired of reading all this stuff, but you need to check Ardmore Dragway out on the HAMB traditional Hot Rod Board, I have more photo"s and stories there also. I will see you at Ardmore Dragway April 10-11.
ROB !
