while visiting parents in alva this wknd, i drug out the old suitcase full of family and racing pics. found some that my sister took @ the world finals @ ontario. couple of them are the blue max car(yellow and blue) from the reunion. another was of my dad's pro stocker in the staging lanes with 240 gordie's funny car right next to it with the body up behind it. i thought that was pretty cool. thought it was pretty ironic having those pics since they were both at the reunion. i brought them with me to scan and post if you like.

here's a few. blue max at world finals. our pro stock in the staging lanes. gordie bonin's funny car beside it in the back ground and dale armstrong's funny car on the other side of gordie's car. a very young me(age 5) standing by the car hauler. this would be a very early pro stock race for us as we got our chapparal from the snake shortly after we started. here's a picture of the chapparal when we got it in '77. it was 2 years old. they had covered up the snakes name and army due to copywrite. still have a copy of the cashier check and a california registration from prudhomme even. don had this trailer special built for him and it has a very unique hydraulic brake system that uses vacuum to operate it. overhead trolly for engine changes, heat, a/c, compressor, 7500w onan, fresh water tank, hydraulic landing, walk on roof, etc...state of the art for it's time.still pretty good shape but needs painted.

post 'em up all of 'em. Kinda like asking a 14 yr old if he wants to see a playboy. haha the reason i asked, they have posted all those cool old pics and not much interest in them it seemed like. i'm not real puter savy so it's a pain for me to scan them and post them. it's only worth the effort if people really want to see them.

i think this is probably at irwindale dad's first car quarterhorse at our home track inyokern the mustard cutter wheelstander. it was owned by a good friend of ours, wild bill shrewsberry of the l.a. dart. they ran this car along with the l.a. dart for match races in australia. mike schmitt, that drove some of our cars, drove this one in the land down under. this is one of 2 pics i have ever seen of this car. sitting on our old hauler at my dad's shop in cali. pro stock under the hood in the mid to late 70's. nhra even made them run a fan blade. dad cut one down to work with the mr gasket water pump setup. state of the art in it's time! this car won best engineered in '77. got a big sliver plaque for it.

the more i look at these pics, the more i think i need to get to cleaning it up. the real pics look better, but since most are polaroids that i have posted, they don't seem to look as good converting them.

wild bill's nephew and good family friend mike just sent me this picture. me and my older brother @ ontario with the berry wagon wheelstander. there is some cool footage of it on you tube. i can remember getting to sit in it. the sponsor was of course knott's berry farm.

i just found out wild bill is restoring the the steel l.a. dart. the fiberglass dart is sittin in the cali desert. the berry wagon was stolen a while back out of a storage facility. supposedly it was found in washington but had been wrecked. don't know any other details on it. they haven't gone to recover yet.

dad's 2 nd car. butler racing chassis. state of the art for its time. butler built a lot of early pro stocks including the motown missle. this car was built to be able to work on it easily. you could strip it to a bare cage in about an hour. without the body on it. boss 302 with gurney-weslake heads and weber 48ida's. it was totaled jan 1 1976 while testing a new 331" gapp and roush engine. they were planning on defending their modified eliminator win at the '75 grand premier @ irwindale. we have everything to build it back. been talking about it for years but never have. their was a spool of wire left on the track from the guys setting up the timing system. mike ran over it and apparently blew a tire. it rolled corner to corner 8 times @ 120+ mph.

first time out, 1976 world finals @ ontario. NHRA tech gave them a hard time over the headliner. apparently the infamous farrah faucet posters were not what they had in mind....they had to duct tape in some fabric to make them happy. then they gave them a hard time about not having any stickers on the car. said if they didnt add their"approved" stickers they would be dq'd. ahhhhhh, the sweet politics of NHRA.... wally booth's amc in the background.
