The 1950's was a great era for automotive enthusiasts. By 1953 car clubs began forming all over America. These young enthusiasts were taking on a new name, Hot Rodders. These group of young enthusiasts would gather at local drive in diners on weekends, showing off their individual taste and style for their automobiles. Occasionally during these gatherings a choose off would take place between two individuals. They would drive to a deserted stretch of road outside of town and perform a speed experimentation called Drag Racing. By 1955 the general public began looking at these hot rodders as renegades or rebels without cause. This began a massive crackdown by local law enforcement authorities on these young hot rodders. Above Loyd Ray Smith and Joe McReynolds prepare for a Saturday night at the Superdog drive in. Ardmores hot rodders hang out. In part two I will introduce you to the group of Ardmore hot rodders who turned traffic tickets into legal drag racing. Rob Ragland
