I had a little time tonight so I thought it would be appropriate to share a few photo's and stories from previous Cowpasture Nationals.
Now the format has changed over the past 37 years of how the Cowpasture Nationals are ran. In the early years it was a Sunday only race. Around 1975 I convinced Johnnie in doing the first two day race. Sunday was usually a index class race or
just a day of test and tunes. Later in the 80's it turned into a
bracket race for both days with Sunday as a double points
race. Remember back in the day it was the fastest 16 cars ran in Super Pro, the rest in Pro or street E.T.. in those early years Coors was a big sponsor at Ardmore Drgaway and they always sponsored a special exhibition race to run on Sunday.
Talk about special events Here Darryle Warren and Johnnie Todd's King Kong go after it during the Texas Pro Stock Cowpasture class.
Funny Cars also ran during the 80's Cowpasture Nationals.
Here the Stidham brothers Time Machine V.S. the Seminole Shaker.
The Cowpasture brought out the heavy hitters, just a few NHRA champions over the years included , Bobby Cross, Mike Edwards,
Tom Conway, Glenn Self, Brad Klein, Lee Shephard, Edmond Richardson and many more competed for the tittle.
I would have to say Lonnie Sears has ran more Cowpastures than anyone else. Here is the Sears and Rushing Hot "T".
As I stated before to win the Cowpastures was a bid deal in the early days. I am fortunate to have won it 3 times.
A couple of years the Cowpasture's featured a 8 car Top Alcohol dragster class.this is Paul Albers in the Stidham and Albers blown dragster.
Well it's been a few years ago when Jim Ragland out ran Larry Zunk for the first Cowpasture win,
Jerry and Judy Mathews won the second Cowpasture Nationals.
Royce Vanbuskirk was the 3rd winner and the first to win in a door car.
....See you at the 37th annual CowPasture Nationals maybe I can add your name to the winners list this year..........Rob
