First I want to apologize for such a long wait before I wrote another story, but I have been struggling on a subject that popped up on another sight I write on. Once I cool down over a responder I will tell you the story.
This week though I want to tell you a story about Jackie and
Ronnie Stidham's dad, Mr. Jack Stidham. Now we go back with the boys to about 1974.Thats when I remember them first coming to Ardmore Dragway and racing. Now Jackie and Dad became instant friends, they both loved to trade. We spent as many weekends in Chickasha trading hot rod stuff as they did in
Ardmore. Now if you ever went to the old trailer shop you had to meet poppa Jack. He was a great man and loved to talk and tell us stories. I can remember him taking us for a shop tour showing off Amarillo Slims horse trailer, or taking us in the house and playing me a song..Yes a song he played with the Bob Wills Texas Playboy band. He also restored old medium duty work trucks and loved showing them to us.
After stop and visiting with Jack it was back to the race shop.
The original one was a small plane hanger looking thing full of the Stidham Toys. Drag Cars, Racing Go Carts,3 wheelers with wheelie bars, a small block Chevrolet powered motor cycle and tons of other treasures. Now every time Dad and Jackie would carry something into the shop Poppa Jack would ask, is that a blower?
Below is a photo form around 1976 at my house with the Stidham clan hanging out. Jackie's silver Altered Dad sold him, Ronnie's Vega on the truck and Gary Cook's dragster on the trailer. They spent many weekend at Ardmore in the early days.
Now around 1979 Jackie and Dad bought out a race team in Texas.
Dad got the car and Jackie most of the engine parts. I can remember caring them into the old shop one Saturday afternoon and,Jackie looking over to his dad and saying...Yes this is a blower.
Now I can't remember if the blower first went on Jackie's,Mark Williams built dragster or the boys Tractor Puller, that was used to outrun local kids in the mall parking lot. But either way they were on the way as Jackie or I would say...World Famous...Just a little inside joke between us from the early days.
Unfortunately Jack Stidham has paseed away..I will always remember his hospitality he gave us when I hear the song Faded Love...untill next time...................Rob
