After seeing this race mentioned on the SWJFA board, I thought I would find the Ardmore Dragway site and see what's up. Excellent!! Our kind of racing right here in our very own state, and we happen to have some of the baddest nostalgia A/Fuelers right here in Tulsa with ours being a blown alcohol front engine dragster, and John Brook (Grand Prix Auto) with his injected nitro, 2008 National Hot Rod Reunion winning, A/Fuel front engine dragster. There is also two other A/Fuel diggers in the works out of the Tulsa area. Cool, this is good stuff! We've been involved in the nostalgia scene for well over 15 years now starting with Junior Fuel. Our first nostalgia drag race was at Ardmore. Now, in looking this over I'm not seeing anything such as a Nostalgia Open Fuel, Injected Nitro, or Top Eliminator type class, but I do see there is going to be a Supercharger Class. Well, that would work for us. WAIT ... NO, there is already a problem in the class structure with allowing "blown pre 72 pro mods". 600 inch screw blown Pro Mods did not even remotely exist in 72, 82, and only "maybe" in 92 with roots blowers. Even at that, 14-71 blowers are hardly nostalgia. 6-71 blowers have been the standard in nostalgia blown cars since nostalgia racing started back in the 80's, and is the standard legal size blower in the NHRA rules for nostalgia. We've dealt with this same issue in Tulsa because the Tulsa track management evidently doesn't "get it" regarding nostalgia. Other than 6.50 index classes, Tulsa is the only place in the country that has allowed modern Pro Mods to participate at a nostalgia drag race. Last year there was one, and this year there were two. Next year we suspect there will be four, and NO front engine dragsters. The numbers are going that direction. Here's the deal, if the Pro Mods are in, we are out. I suspect you will find that will be the case with most of the other front engine dragsters, altereds, etc. that could be running in the "Supercharger Class". Not to rain on your parade but it is something to seriously think about. At a minimum, a limit of a 6-71 blower, and no more than a two-speed tranny solves a lot of issues in nostalgia racing. At this time we may be out anyway since we are waiting on sleeves for our block ... may have them this week, or we may not. Regardless, I hope things go well this year and that you all can build this into an exciting event with great tradition for years to come.

Robin, Here's the deal, if enough pre '72 pro mods show up and have fun then maybe Rob can create a class just for them...next year. It's one round...with the quickest two to the finals. Surely that lightweight digger could be one of them. This is a Reunion with racing. See people and cars and have fun with nostalgia drag cars HERE IN OKLAHOMA at the oldest continuously operated track in the country. If you want, you could just run No-Electronics Sat and Sun for big bucks(bring more sleeves) or I think the NHRA Heritage series, has a class just for you. ;D Really, just come and have fun, make a couple of hits and maybe take home a trophy.

Special Blown front engine dragster match race, ... Well, I did notice the above while perusing another related thread. I take it we are not "Special" ... lol. As I stated, we are waiting on sleeves. Until those items are in hand, our appearance is doubtful. Beyond that, I would think after 15 plus years of supporting nostalgia drag racing hauling race cars and people from coast to coast, our support of nostalgia drag racing goes without question. In reference to the Heritage Series, I'm not sure. It has been the Reunions that we have participated in. Most of that time was in Junior Fuel, with the last few years in Open Fuel at the NHRR's. We've supported Open Fuel and have watched the degradation of that class with the influx of 14-71 blown three-speed transformers that have taken place over the last few years. It all started with one car finding a loophole within the vague non west coast rules, that now has escalated into an influx of said cars with a separation of the class into two 6.50 index formats with fewer front engine dragsters in attendance, and just like Pro Mods, transformers were not in existence on or before 1972. Modern Pro Mods, no matter what skin they are wearing, are not nostalgia, period. Pro Mods have their arena, and should stay in it. Last I checked, they do not appear to lack for race venues. Look, our issue is not whether we can hold or own with the modern Pro Mods, it is more to do with the other dragsters that stay home because they know they can't. In retrospect, I'm amazed that this is even a concern that needs to be addressed. When we started nostalgia drag racing there were no Pro Mods. Not only at nostalgia events, but anywhere.

OK here is the deal. This is not a national event! I don't even have a class for my car set up correct Nostalgia dragster A 7.50 index. Its 72 and earlier period.
This is a Reunion of the Slow Poke car club that started racing in Oklahoma back in 1955. We throw in a bunch of of racers from Texas,Oklahoma and add a little racing from those just wanting to make the ground shake and have fun.....
This is the best I can do, If you want to come and have fun come on ...........maybe somebody smarter than me can hook up with Gibbs and get Bowling Green moved to Thunder Valley.... Way Cool.....Till then ..................................................
Saturday Saturday Saturday.....See Ezra Boggs Jungle Jim Bobby Langley and more restored race cars.. At this years Hot Rod Reunion.

Rob, I'm sorry if you feel offended. Your response comes across as such ... no need. No one is asking for a national event, whatever that may be in the nostalgia world. All I'm offering is a solution to a problem before it becomes one, which is no Pro Mods, period. After rereading your post, I'm not sure if the issue is being addressed or not. Our drag racing history goes back to the 50's as well, with nearly 20 years racing nostalgia. It may be possible that we have a misunderstanding regarding Pro Mods. My take is, if the car is legal for ADRL Outlaw Pro Mod, it's a modern Pro Mod. For all I know, they may allow Model T bodies, but they are still not nostalgia. Now, NHRA does have a gasser class that is more or less similar to Pro Mod, but they are limited to 6-71 blowers. Here's a link to NHRA's nostalgia rules that may be helpful: www.nhra.com/2007/images/Museum/2007NostagliaSupplement.pdfMy concern is to maintain the integrity of what's nostalgia, and just to offer some help regarding the Pro Mod issue. I understand that this is just a small event, but that is the same response we get from Tulsa since contacts were already made with the Pro Mod cars out of the OKC area. That's fine, but I know of several front engine dragsters that stayed home due to the tracks decision based on personal bias. Next year, we may be one of them, as well. That's a shame considering it's our home track. Sorry if this comes across as a rant from the Tulsa experience, but the parallels can hardly go without notice with the mention of Pro Mods without any specific restrictions. For a nostalgia heads up race the basic rules are simple; no larger than 6-71 blower, front engine, and no more than two-speed trannys. If that's what they've got, then let's race! For the record, Pro Mod is one of my favorite classes in the modern era. They more resemble the early funny cars than the modern funny cars. IMO, they just need an injected nitro version. Oh yeah! Again, I'm just trying to be helpful. I'm sure your event will be a great success, and I wish you the best.
