For those of us that can remember those crazy 70's & 80's at Ardmore Dragway. You would have to agree there was no one more care free, or tougher to out run than the 1977 & 1978 points champion Gary Cook. Gary passed away in his home town of Chickasha Oklahoma January 17 after battling a long illness. Gary was part of the Chickasha Gang that invaded Ardmore Dragway through the 70's & 80's. Gary and his wife Mary Lou campaigned a rear engine dragster, that actually was once a front engine slingshot in it's Top Gas days for many years. Powered by a Milk Truck Big Block Chevrolet and clutch flight transmission, he was lighting quick on the starting line. The above photo is Gary and Mary Lou with water jug in hand headed to one of their many final round runs that earned him the first two time Ardmore Dragway points champion in 1977 & 1978. No doubt Garys day is watching from his normal spot every Sunday on the spectator side of the track. Gary's larger than life grin and fun loving spirit made him a friend to everyone he met. The Chickasha Gang with Gary Cook camped out at the Ragland's during a two day race at Ardmore Dragway......Wow it was only yesterday right? Gary will always remembered at Ardmore Dragway as one of the good guys! We miss you buddy.....Rob
