Wow Jim that would be cool if you guys can put a race together, such as Thunder Valley runs just for bikes. On the bike subject. There was a time in the mid 70's when the whole west side of Ardmore's pit was covered with motorcycle racers. I can recall a 100 in one weekend.
Around 1974 Jerrold Chronister used to sack my moms groceries at a food mart on Friday then out run my dads dragster with his bike on Sunday.
So this week I will just throw some names out of the past. Bike racers I recall that ran at Ardmore Dragway over the years.
First of course is Mr. Floyd Gaither If you do not know his drag racing legacy on two wheels you must still be in a cave. Floyd was and will always be Ardmore's number one bike racer. He started racing at the Slow Pokes downtown drag strip in the late 50's. He gave the class style , and of course the family tradition of Virgile, Pete, and now Charlie keeps the Gaither legacy alive.
Other bike racers on my list include, Jerry Cramer, Chuck Bachman, Steve Russell, Bob Morrison, Howard Wiggins, Jerry Spradling, Sid Pogue, Phil Mathews, Dan Rogers, Glen Snedeker, Paul Albers, Nick Webster, Marion Owens, Steve Phillips, Larry Floyd, Mike Dunn, Lynn Shebester, Dave Cook, Jimmy Spradling, Bo O'brachta, Larry Eperjesi, and a whole cast of others.
Till next time keep it on two wheels.................Rob

During the 1980's, I can remember Floyd Gaither and Steve Russell in the finals most every Sunday. Both were chasing points, and Steve kept telling Floyd, get you a wheelie bar, but Floyd was old school and he kept us all on the edge of our seats with his 2nd gear wheelies! What was so fun about ET racing was Floyd's bike would be half way down the track before Steve's light went green! It was always a good race and a toss up who would win. Good sportsmanship and good friends always. I miss those old times very much, as well as Floyd and my husband, Steve. God Speed to them and all our racing family we have lost. Brenda Russell
